Fresh from news that a couple of film projects were in pre-production about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, it has been announced that Mark Wahlberg (Ted, The Gambler) is set to produce and possibly star in one of the versions.
Patriots’ Day is based on the first-hand account of Ed Davis, who Wahlberg could end up playing in the drama. Davis, a Boston Police commissioner, played a key role in the subsequent hunt for the two brothers who are held responsible for the attack, and are currently on trial in the US.
CBS Films president Terry Press, who are behind this version of the project, said “There is nothing more compelling than a real story populated by real heroes,” and that the film will “give audiences a very personal look at what occurred during the days when the eyes of the world were on the city of Boston and how a group of contemporary patriots faced this crisis”.
According to CBS Films, Patriots’ Day will be “an intense thriller, spanning the five-day search up to the infamous siege… in Watertown” near Boston.
The rival version, currently in pre-production over at 20th Century Fox, is titled Boston Strong, and is based on the book by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge,
Wahlberg can next be seen this June in Ted 2, which sees him reunite with Seth MacFarlane for the eagerly-anticipated sequel to 2012’s blockbuster hit.
