Marlon Wayans is looking for “GOAT” status as he enters the upcoming horror film Goat., with Deadline reporting this past week that Wayans will star in the sports horror from Universal Pictures and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw.
Justin Tipping will helm the film, based on a spec script by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. The film will center on a promising young athlete invited to train with a team’s retiring star.
The studios are reportedly going the “screen-testing route for finding the young athlete character,” but Deadline notes that Marlon Wayans was always at the top of the list. Universal EVP Production Development Sara Scott and Director of Development Tony Ducret will oversee the project.
Although he’s not usually known for straightforward horror films, Wayans is familiar with the genre. The actor helped create the iconic Scary Movie horror parody franchise and the similar modern update A Haunted House. He also had a memorable dramatic turn in the psychological drama film Requiem for a Dream.
Director Justin Tipping is best known for his work on the film Kicks, as well as series like Run The World, Flatbush Misdemeanors, and Joe vs. Carole.
At the time of writing, there’s no set release date or production timeline for Goat.
