Marvel has ideas for six seasons of Daredevil, but unsure whether we’ll see more Iron Fist and The Defenders

September 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With Netflix announcing that the third season of Daredevil is set to arrive next month, Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb has been chatting to Entertainment Weekly about the future of the streaming service’s Marvel shows, stating that the ultimate decision about what comes next is down to Netflix.

“Does Marvel have an idea as to what Daredevil [season] 4, 5, or 6 could be? Sure,” said Loeb. “But ultimately those things will be shifted and talked about by the two other important parties that are involved: the network — Netflix — and our showrunner.”

Given the cliffhanger ending of Iron Fist, Loeb was then asked whether we can expect a third season of that show:

“Speak to our friends at Netflix,” he said. “Unlike the movie studio, which can announce a Captain Marvel movie will be out in 2019, the television studio will always be beholden to our networks, and so if our networks want another season of Iron Fist, we’re ready to go. We’re just waiting for the answer.”

Finally, Loeb also addressed the possibility of a second season of The Defenders, stating that while there are no plans, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility somewhere down the line:

“All we’ve ever said is that there are no plans right now [to do another]. It doesn’t mean that it’s off the table. And it doesn’t mean that it even has to be with the original characters that were in the first Defenders.”

Season three of Daredevil sees Charlie Cox (Matt Murdoch/Daredevil), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin) all returning to the cast alongside new additions Joanne Whalley (Wolf Hall) as Sister Maggie and Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie), potentially as the villain Bullseye. It is set to arrive on Netflix on October 19th.
