If you’ve been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe for any real length of time, you’ve probably lost count of the number of times it’s been rumoured that the character of Nova would be making his MCU debut, but now it seems that Marvel Studios is finally ready to bring the cosmic superhero to the screen.
As reported by Deadline, Marvel has tapped Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada to work on a script for a Nova project, and will it’s unclear exactly at this point whether it will be a feature film or Disney+ show, the belief is that it is being eyed as a limited TV series.
Debuting in Marvel Comics in 1976’s The Man Called Nova #1, Richard Rider was a high school student chosen by the dying alien Rhomann Dey to replace him as part of the Nova Corps, the intergalactic police force introduced to the MCU in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. A new incarnation of Nova, Sam Alexander, debuted in the Marvel Universe in 2011.
As yet, there’s no indication as to which version(s) of the character will make the jump from comic book universe to cinematic universe, nor do we have any indication as to where it might fit in Marvel’s future slate. In the meantime however, we are just a few days away from the premiere of Moon Knight, which launches on Disney+ on Wednesday, March 30th.
