While the Avengers franchise appears to be on hold for the time being following the events of Avengers: Endgame, it seems that Marvel may be planning on introducing a new team bearing the name of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – although this time it will be on the small screen as part of the Disney+ TV series slate.
According to an unconfirmed rumour from Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is said to be in development on a Young Avengers show for Disney+, which may incorporate characters from another young Marvel superhero team in the Champions, and will likely include Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop from the Hawkeye series, as well as Kamala Khan following her debut in the solo Ms. Marvel series.
The Young Avengers made their debut in 2005, and – as you may have guessed by the name – are a team of adolescent heroes who generally have some kind of connection with the main Avengers. Along with Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye, other members have included Iron Lad, Hulkling, Patriot, Wiccan, Speed, Marvel Boy and Miss America.
This certainly isn’t the first time that a Young Avengers project has been brought up as a possibility, with Marvel’s Kevin Feige admitting last year that he thinks it would be “cool” to see a team-up featuring Ant-Man’s daughter Cassie Lang (in the comic books, Cassie becomes a member of the Young Avengers under her superhero alias Stature – and in the MCU, she’s now conveniently around the right age following Endgame).
Whether there’s any truth to the rumour remains to be seen, but given that Marvel is quietly assembling a roster of age appropriate heroes, and seems to be announcing new projects every other week, one would have to imagine that it is only a matter of time before we get to see some kind of Young Avengers / Champions team assembling in the MCU.
