Marvel Studios’ latest superhero blockbuster Black Panther has continued its stellar theatrical run by cracking the all-time top ten at the worldwide box office.
The Ryan Coogler-directed, Chadwick Boseman-headlined solo movie has amassed $1.279 billion since its release in February, taking tenth place in the all time chart ahead of Disney’s Frozen on $1.277 billion. It now sits just $54 million shy of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which earned $1.333 billion following its December opening.
Domestically, Black Panther has also surpassed Jurassic World’s $652.6 million to climb to fourth in the all time list with $652.6 million, and could yet overtake James Cameron’s Titanic ($659.4 million) before it finishes up its run.
With Avengers: Infinity War opening in just a few short weeks, and Ant-Man and the Wasp to follow in the summer, it would seem that 2018 is going to be an incredible year for Disney, Marvel Studios, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returnsohome to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.
