Marvel’s Blade was set in the 1920s with Mia Goth as Lilith, Delroy Lindo no longer attached

June 22, 2024 by EJ Moreno

There hasn’t been a modern superhero film with this trouble in development since Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Marvel Studios’ Blade has a rocky road to production, with many delays, rewrites, and creative reshuffles.

In the wake of the recent exit of director Yann Demange, a new report has emerged revealing that one plan for the Marvel reboot had been to set the film in the 1920s, with Mia Goth playing the vampire villain Lilith. Goth’s Lilith would have sought the blood of Blade’s daughter, putting her against Mahershala Ali’s titular character.

Goth reportedly remains attached to the project at the time of reporting, but two key figures who were part of Demange’s take are no longer involved, with actors Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre both said to have left due to the ongoing scheduling issues.

Blade will need to find a new supporting cast, but it does seem like Lilith will remain the foe for the time being. As for the time period, the reports say Marvel has decided to set the vampire film back into the present day.

The project has now lost two directors, with Yann Demange and Bassam Tariq both having spent time on the project, while handful of writers have also been attached, including Nic Pizzolatto, Stavey Osei-Kuffour Beau DeMayo, and Michael Starrbury.

The latest writer is Marvel mainstay Eric Pearson, who has worked on the scripts for Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow, and The Fantastic Four. Blade is currently scheduled for release on November 7th, 2025.
