We’ve heard an awful lot from Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige over the past few days as he does the press tour for the U.S. home entertainment release of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Having discussed pretty much every aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe [follow all our coverage here], he’s now turned his attention to the Phase Three franchise launcher Doctor Strange.
Despite rumours last year that Marvel were moving away from origin stories and that Doctor Strange would begin the movie fully-formed, Feige has confirmed that the film will explore Dr. Stephen Strange’s journey to becoming the Sorcerer Supreme:
“For some reason people sometimes talked about how we’re not doing an origin story, we’re bored of origin stories. I think people are bored of origin stories they’ve seen before or origin stories that are overly familiar. Doctor Strange has one of the best, most classic, most unique origin stories of any hero we have, so why wouldn’t we do that?”
Doctor Strange is set for release on October 28, 2016 in the UK and November 4, 2016 in the US. Scott Derrickson (Sinister) is directing a cast that so far includes Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) as Stephen Strange, Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer) as The Ancient One and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) as Baron Mordo.
