Marvel Television and Netflix have announced another new recruit to their upcoming original series Iron Fist with The Lord of the Rings star David Wenham joining the cast.
Wenham, who has also featured in such films as 300 and Van Helsing, joins the show as Harold Meachum, “a ruthless corporate leader who was partnered with Danny Rand’s parents at the time of their deaths.” In the comics, Meachum is directly responsible for the death of Rand’s father.
Scott Buck, showrunner and executive producer, said on Wenham’s casting: “I’m very excited to have David as our Harold Meachum. David is capable of displaying raw, visceral strength as well as extremely keen intelligence… This will add up to a character of complex depth who will keep us off balance all season.”
Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television, added: “David brings both a vulnerability and a danger to his many diverse roles,… This key quality creates a gravitas our series requires as Danny unravels the secrets behind Rand Enterprises.”
Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) plays the titular hero with Jessica Henwick (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) co-starring as Colleen Wing. The series is set to hit Netflix in 2017.
News has also broke today that The Defenders, which teams Iron Fist, Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter), will begin shooting later this year.
