Just days after reports emerged that Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick) has taken over the role of Sentry from Beef’s Steven Yeun in Marvel’s upcoming Thunderbolts, Deadline reports that the superhero film is undergoing another recast as Ayo Edebiri is also dropping out of the film and will be replaced by Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers).
Edebiri had joined the ensemble cast which features many of the MCU’s villains and anti-heroes as they form a group answering directly to the US government. It was unknown who she would play, but she has been forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts that emerged as a result of Thunderbolt‘s delay during the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes last year. Viswanathan has now been cast in the mystery role.
Viswanathan’s other credits include the comedy series Miracle Workers and The Beanie Bubble. She’ll soon be seen in Drive Away Dolls and You’re Cordially Invited.
Thunderbolts will star MCU veterans Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.
Directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns) and written by Eric Pearson (Black Widow), little is known about the plot of Thunderbolts aside from the fact it will follow a group of villains-turned-heroes sent on missions commissioned by the government.
Thunderbolts is set for release on July 25th 2025.
