The first news on the second season of Netflix’s mystery comedy A Man on the Inside has been revealed. The series is to take on an anthology format with Ted Danson’s Charles focusing on a new case with a new cast of characters, the first being Danson’s wife Mary Steenburgen joining the show.
The first season saw Charles going undercover in a retirement home to find a stolen family heirloom. With that story wrapped up, season two will see the retired professor-turned-private investigator’s next assignment taking place at a liberal arts college.
Steenburgen will play Mona Margadoff, “a former musician who factors heavily in the case Charles is trying to solve.” She will be a primary suspect in Charles’ new case and could find a blossoming romance between them.
Retired professor Charles (Ted Danson) feels life has nothing new in store for him. A year after his wife’s passing, he’s become stuck in his routine and grown distant from his daughter. But when he spies a classified ad from a private investigator, he’s inspired to roll the dice on a new adventure, going undercover to solve the mystery of a stolen family heirloom.
A Man on the Inside is created by Mike Schur, known for The Office, Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the Danson-led The Good Place. The series is based on the 2021 Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent.
