Deadline is reporting that Matt Damon has signed on to star in Stillwater, the next film from director Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent, Spotlight), which is being produced by Participant Media and Anonymous Content.
The film will see Damon playing Bill Baker, an oil rigger from Oklahoma “who travels to Marseille where his estranged daughter is imprisoned for a murder she claims she did not commit. He makes it his personal mission to exonerate his daughter and along the way develops a friendship with a local woman and her young daughter and embarks on a personal journey of discovery and a larger sense of belonging in the world.”
Damon will next be seen alongside Christian Bale in James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari, which is set for release this November, and has also just signed on to reunite with Ben Affleck for The Last Duel, a 14th century revenge tale which has Ridley Scott attached to direct.
