Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith is the latest actor to join Igby Goes Down director Burr Steers’ adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which begins shooting later this month. According to THR, he will play the character Mr. Collins, “a parson who is on the lookout for a wife and proposes to Bennett”.
By Bennett, they of course mean Elizabeth Bennett, the heroine of the original Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice, which and Zombies is obviously a riff on. This comedic retelling features zombified versions of the classic characters, as Bennett must contend with not only eligable suitors, but hordes of the undead.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is tentatively scheduled for 2015, and stars Lily James (Wrath of the Titans), Sam Riley (Maleficent), Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), Douglas Booth (Worried About the Boy), and Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Ben-Hur).
