Are we seeing the birth of a Five Nights At Freddy’s movie franchise? The latest news promises at least two more movies following the upcoming video game adaptation from Universal and Blumhouse.
During a recent appearance on the WeeklyMTG podcast, Matthew Lillard confirmed that he will appear in not only the upcoming movie, which just started production, but that he’s signed on for at least two more movies.
“I just got cast in a movie called Five Nights At Freddy’s, it’s very fun, and it’s a three-picture deal with Universal and Blumhouse,” says Lillard during the interview.
This news is the first confirmation that they are planning more than one of these Five Nights At Freddy’s movies, but it shouldn’t be too shocking. Every studio wants a film franchise, and the Five Nights At Freddy’s video games are insanely popular with multiple installments. A trilogy of these movies could be a perfect yearly scare-fest for Blumhouse.
Lillard will play William Afton, the co-founder of Fazbear Entertainment Inc, which owns the restaurant chain infested with killer animatronics. In the games, he is also the founder of Afton Robotics and is often seen as a remorseless child serial killer, as he’s responsible for the events of the games.
Emma Tammi will direct Five Nights At Freddy’s from a script co-written by Tammi, the game’s creator Scott Cawthon, and Seth Cuddeback. Blumhouse and Universal Pictures will produce.
Iconic creature design studio Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will work with Blumhouse to bring the iconic animatronics to life for the film, which started shooting this month but is yet to receive a release date.
