Matthew Vaughn would still like to direct a Fantastic Four movie and thinks the characters can rival Spider-Man in terms of popularity.
Now that Fantastic Four is a part of the MCU, the directing gig for their debut is seemingly up for grabs. Someone who has been wanting the job for a while now is Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn.
In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Vaughn said he is still keen on the job and thinks that the Fantastic Four could be as popular as Spider-Man:
“Yeah I’ve always loved the idea of doing Fantastic Four as it was originally written. I mean it’s one of my favorite comics and I actually think that Fantastic Four, as a nice piece of IP, is in theory as big as Spider-Man. I think those, the values of Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, I think those are the reason, if you’re a kid, you can imagine being a part of the Fantastic Four family and you can imagine being Peter Parker. So yeah, I think Fantastic Four would be the one that would excite me the most.”
Vaughn does have some experience in the Marvel world, having directed X-Men: First Class. So who knows. Perhaps Marvel will give him the gig when the time is right – although Ant-Man director Peyton Reed has also thrown his hat into the ring, with Reed having previously been attached to Fox’s 2005 movie prior to director Tim Story.
