Matthias Schoenaerts set for villain role in Supergirl movie

September 25, 2024 by EJ Moreno

If the Woman of Tomorrow must fight, she’s found quite the worthy adversary.

As James Gunn and Peter Safran begin to shape the next set of DC Studios projects, a focus has been put on making Warner Bros/DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. We already know that House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock won out to land the Supergirl role, but now we have her foe, or at least the actor, playing him.

Deadline reports Matthias Schoenaerts will star in Supergirl opposite Alcock in a still undisclosed role. Schoenaerts has been seen in films like Red Sparrow and Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash and recently starred in the Max and HBO series The Regime opposite Kate Winslet.

One tip to help us determine who he’ll play is to look at the source material. Assuming the project is still set to be based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Schoenaerts could star as Krem of the Yellow Hill. In the story, Krem slays a young girl’s father, and Supergirl is roped into the twisted adventure.

Craig Gillespie (Cruella) is directing the project, which is reportedly the next chapter in the “Gods and Monsters” saga. Supergirl is set to shoot in January 2025 in the UK and be released on June 26, 2026.
