Jon Hamm is returning to high school, playing one of teen movie history’s most infamously bad teachers.
This new Mean Girls musical project heading to Paramount+ is an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, an adaptation of the 2004 fan-favorite teen movie. Hamm will play Coach Carr, the gym coach and hilariously bad sex-ed teacher, in Mean Girls: The Musical. Dwayne Hill played Coach Carr in the original film.
Joining Hamm in this new version of the Mean Girls musical are Angourie Rice, Auli’i Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, and Reneé Rapp (who starred as Regina George in the Broadway musical). While Rapp will reprise her role as Regina George, Rice will play Cady, originally played by Lohan, Cravalho will play Janis, and Spivey will play Damien, originally played by Lizzy Caplan and Daniel Franzese, respectively.
Hamm will soon appear in the upcoming season of the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. He was recently seen in Confess, Fletch, and the Academy Award-winning Top Gun: Maverick.
Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. are set to direct the musical, with Tina Fey returning to Mean Girls to write the movie musical’s feature script. Lorne Michaels will return to produce alongside Fey. We will hear music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin, with Kyle Hanagami choreographing.
