Back in October of 2017 it was reported that Lethal Weapon director Richard Donner and stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover were looking to reunite for a fifth instalment in the classic buddy cop franchise, with Donner subsequently revealing that he didn’t believe the sequel was going to move ahead.
Well, it seems that Warner Bros. hasn’t shut the door entirely on Lethal Weapon 5 (which Donner previously said would be titled Lethal Finale), as Dan Lin – an executive producer on the Lethal Weapon TV series – has revealed to THR that everyone remains on board and are hopeful to get the go ahead from Warner Bros.
“We’re trying to make the last Lethal Weapon move,” said Lin, who has produced the likes of Sherlock Holmes, The LEGO Movie and It for WB. “And Donner’s coming back. The original cast is coming back. And it’s just amazing. The story itself is very personal to him. Mel and Danny are ready to go, so it’s about the script.”
The first Lethal Weapon was released in 1987, with sequels following in 1989, 1992 and 1998. Donner directed all four instalments in the series, which grossed over $950 million worldwide between them at the global box office.
