Mel Gibson to serve as creative adviser on World War II film The Bombing

July 14, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that Mel Gibson has signed on to serve as a creative adviser on the upcoming big-budget Chinese World War II epic The Bombing, which is set to star Bruce Willis.

“Mel is interested in what happened during that period of time, and provided relevant suggestions on how to make the movie,” said Shi Jianxiang, founder and CEO of Kuailu, during a press conference announcing Gibson’s role. “He is very insightful.”

The Bombing revolves around Japan’s bombardment of the Chinese city of Chongqing, with Willis playing a United States Air Force pilot who volunteers to help defend the people of the city. The $65 million budgeted film is being directed by Xiao Feng (Hushed Roar), and also features Asian actors Song Seung-heon, Nicholas Tse, William Chen and Liu Ye.
