With Star Wars: The Complete Saga arriving on Blu-ray this month, Gary Collinson counts down his most memorable Star Wars moments (check out the previous entry here)…
STAR WARS: EPISODE II – ATTACK OF THE CLONES
I think the majority of people would agree that the prequel trilogy didn’t exactly get off to the best of starts with The Phantom Menace, but George Lucas went some way towards making ammends with the second installment, Attack of the Clones.
Despite a wooden performance from Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker – and the iffy love story between him and Padme (Natalie Portman) – Episode II did have its moments and the prequel trilogy really starts to heat up about an hour-and-forty minutes into AOTC as the Clone Wars kicks off with an epic battle between the Republic and the Separatist Army on the planet Geonosis. However, the real treat is still to come, as the fallen Jedi Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) makes quick work of Anakin and Obi Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) before Master Yoda makes his grand entrance, setting up a showdown with his former Padawan that culminates in a lightsaber duel between two masters of the Force.
On paper, the idea of a two-feet high Muppet leaping about the air in a scuffle with an octogenarian sounds utterly ridiculous, but in actuality it gave us one of the highlights of the entire prequel trilogy…
