According to Variety, MGM Television is developing a series based upon the life of celebrated journalist and writer Hunter S. Thompson, which is being penned by Bob Nelson (Nebraska), with Davey Holmes (Get Shorty) set to serve as showrunner should it make it to series.
“As we look to the future of MGM Television, it is imperative that we forge long-term relationships with creators who have an eye for dynamic storytelling,” said MGM TV and Digital chief Mark Burnett. “Davey is tremendously talented and has demonstrated that he can deliver quality programming that will resonate with viewers.”
The project is described as an “authorised” look at the life of Thompson, whose publications include the likes of Hell’s Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream and Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail ’72.
