While it would certainly have been a strong contender for the now-postponed Academy Award for Achievement in Popular Film, Black Panther still has ambitions of success at the Oscars this coming February, with Marvel Studios recently launching its ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign for the superhero blockbuster.
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, who described Black Panther as the best movie that Marvel has made to date, has said that “it would be wonderful” to see the film recognised, and now Michael B. Jordan – the actor behind the villain Killmonger – has weight in with his thoughts on the movie’s Oscar chances:
“The movie has done such a great job, broke through so many glass ceilings, and made such an impact culturally and around the world,” Jordan tells Essence. “If the Academy chooses to recognize that project for all of those reasons that’s amazing icing on the cake, but I think what the movie has done so far is truly incredible and a win all its own. I felt so accomplished doing this movie, but it’s not up to me to validate the film. So the people who make those decisions, that’s something they have to think about and figure out on their own.”
