Having finished up with the Transformers franchise with last year’s Transformers: The Last Knight, it was announced back in March that Michael Bay would be next directing the action thriller Six Underground.
Well, Deadline is reporting that Ryan Reynolds has now signed on to star in the movie, which has been scripted by Deadpool and Deadpool 2 screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Meanwhile, Netflix has also come on board to finance the project to the tune of $150 million, making it the streaming service’s biggest budget feature project to date.
Plot details for Six Underground are being kept under wraps, but it is described as “a high testosterone mission movie”, with ambitions of becoming a franchise. In addition to directing, Bay will also serve as producer alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger of Skydance Productions.
Six Underground is due to begin production this summer, ahead of a premiere on the streaming service in the summer of 2019.
