The Hollywood Reporter has revaled that the long-gestating Bob The Musical may finally be coming to the screen thanks to Wonder Boys scribe Michael Chabon and Oscar winner Brett McKenzie (The Muppets), with Tom Cruise said to be circling the film.
Chabon, who worked on Spider-Man 2 with Sam Raimi and Disney’s John Carter, is in talks to pen the new screenplay, which would see him work with McKenzie who will write the songs for the film. McKenzie, who found fame with Flight of the Conchords, won the Best Original Song Oscar for “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets.
Director Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) is set to direct the film, which has been in the works since 2004. In addition, THR suggests that Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) is interested in portraying the title character, who after a blow to the head, can suddently hear the inner songs of everyone’s heart as his reality is instantly turned into a musical, much to his dismay.
