Some progress has been made on the sequel to 2014’s Godzilla reboot, with Variety reporting that – following earlier rumors – acclaimed horror director Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat and Krampus) is set to direct Godzilla: King of Monsters.
The director has been known to collaborate with Legendary Pictures and even has one of his writing buddies (Zach Shields) alongside him for the sequel. Perhaps hiring someone with expertise in scares will ensure that the terror Godzilla is able to instill in both the characters and audiences will be fully realized.
The 2014 U.S. reboot of Godzilla was directed by Gareth Edwards who went on to helm the first of several Star Wars spinoff stories, Rogue One.
Godzilla: King of Monsters is scheduled for a March 22, 2019 release date with a future crossover with Kong: Skull Island in the works for 2020.
