We all remember Batgirl and the decision to cancel the film; one person who isn’t looking back at that project is Michael Keaton, who seemingly took the check and moved on.
If you don’t remember, Warner Bros. pulled the plug on a $90 million Batgirl, which was already shot and through post-production when the decision was made. This decision rocked the film industry, leaving young actress Leslie Grace without a starring role and denying fans another chance at Keaton’s Batman after The Flash.
While speaking to GQ to promote his work on the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel (also from WB), the actor didn’t seem hard-pressed about it. He seemed to enjoy filming the movie – and cashing the check that came with it.
“No, I didn’t care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check,” Keaton said. GQ adds that Keaton was also “rubbing his fingers together in the universal gesture for moolah.”
While he seems flippant about Batgirl, he praises the directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. “I like those boys. They’re nice guys,” Keaton adds. Continuing, “I pull for them. I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad. Me? I’m good.”
