On the heels of the David Thewlis announcement, THR reports that six more actors have been added to the cast of Fargo season 3, rounding out the show’s ensemble.
The new additions include Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), Scoot McNairy (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Shea Whigham (Silver Linings Playbook), Karan Soni (Safety Not Guaranteed), Fred Melamed (Bone Tomahawk) and Thomas Mann (Amityville: The Awakening).
Joining Ewan McGregor’s Emmit and Ray Stussy, Carrie Coon’s Gloria Burgle, Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Nikki Swango and Jim Gaffigan’s Donny Mashman, Stuhlbarg will play Emmit’s right-hand man/adviser Sy Feltz. McNairy’s set to play stoner and former criminal Maurice LeFay, Whigham is on board for Meeker County chief of police Moe Dammick and Soni has been tapped for scientist Dr. Homer Gilruth.
Melamed will portray “Howard Zimmerman, a mover and a shaker with a knack for spinning a yarn and making a profit,” while Mann has signed on to play a science fiction author named Thaddeus Mobley.
Coincidentally, nearly all of the aforementioned actors were met with major success in 2016. Stuhlbarg and McNairy both had roles in two of the year’s biggest hits, Doctor Strange and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, respectively, Whigham played earnest step-dad Ray Liptrapp on HBO’s Vice Principals, Soni showed off his comedy chops in Deadpool, Ghostbusters and Office Christmas Party and Melamed popped up in the Coen brothers’ Hail, Caesar! and various TV shows.
The actors also share quite a few connections, as Stuhlbarg and McNairy are Marvel Cinematic Universe alumni, Whigham stars alongside Mann in next year’s Kong: Skull Island, Stuhlbarg and Melamed shared the screen in A Serious Man, Whigham and Stuhlbarg appeared on Boardwalk Empire and Soni and Melamed have had roles on Blunt Talk.
Fargo will return for its third season, which is set in 2010 after the events of season 1, in 2017. Production will begin in Calgary next month.
