Production on the Robert Rodriguez-directed and James Cameron-produced Alita: Battle Angel has wrapped, but Entertainment Weekly brings word that Fast & Furious star Michelle Rodriguez will play the cyborg warrior Gelda in the long-gestating manga adaptation, although her casting had been kept quiet until now.
Alita: Battle Angel follows an amnesiac cyborg (Rosa Salazar) who is discovered by a scientist (Christoph Waltz) in a junk yard. With no knowledge of her previous life, but possessing deadly martial arts skills, she becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals.
In addition to Salazar and Waltz, the cast also includes Keean Johnson (Nashville), Jackie Earle Haley (Preacher), Jennifer Connelly (American Pastoral), Ed Skrein (Deadpool), Eiza Gonzalez (From Dusk Till Dawn), Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage), Lana Condor (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Spider-Man: Homecoming).
Although production has wrapped, Alita will require extensive post-production on its visual effects, and isn’t set to hit cinemas until July 20th 2018.
