Michelle Williams to star in Jonah Hill’s directorial debut Mid-90s

January 30, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Fresh from her Best Supporting Actress nomination at the Oscars for Manchester by the Sea, Michelle Williams is now in talks to join Mid-90s, the upcoming directorial debut of Jonah Hill.

The coming-of-age drama “follows a teenager named Stevie as he struggles with the various roles he must play in life: surrogate partner to his co-dependent single mother (Williams), receiver of abuse from his troubled older brother, and invisible stand-in to his wealthier school friends. As Stevie inches his way into acceptance of the crew of skateboarders, he deals with issues of class, race and socioeconomic privilege and under-privilege he’s never experienced before. Stevie’s mother must deal with her son growing further and further apart from her, which spins her out of control.”

Mid-90s is set to go into production in June, with Scott Rudin (Fences), Eli Bush (Ex Machina, The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Ken Kao (Knight Of Cups, Sea of Trees) producing.
