Michelle Yeoh joins The Witcher: Blood Origin

July 7, 2021 by Ricky Church

Netflix has announced that Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Discovery) has joined the cast of The Witcher prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Yeoh will play an elf named Scían, who is “the very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves. No one can comes close to her artistry with the blade, and no one carries as much loss within their heart. When a chance presents itself to retrieve a stolen sacred sword, taken from her fallen tribe by nefarious means, she launches herself into a deadly quest that will change the outcome of the Continent.”

This upcoming Netflix six-episode limited series is set 1,200 years before the events of their current series, the Henry Cavill-starring The Witcher. The Witcher: Blood Origin will “tell a story lost to time — the creation of the very first Witcher and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged; to become one.”

Jodie Turner-Smith was to lead the series, but had to exit due to a scheduling conflict. While her role has not yet been filled, Yoeh will star alongside  Laurence O’Fuarain (Vikings) in the series.

Yeoh has a number of upcoming films as she will be seen next in the action comedy thriller Gunpowder Milkshake, Marvel’s Shang-Ci and the Legend of the Seven Rings and the Avatar sequels from James Cameron. Currently she stars in Star Trek: Discovery and there has been talk of Yeoh getting her own Star Trek spin-off focusing on her character, Phillipa Georgiou, and the clandestine and ruthless rogue black-ops group Section 31.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will be showrun and executive produced by Declan de Barra with The Witcher‘s Lauren Schmidt Hissrich also serving as an executive producer. Andrzej Sapkowski, who wrote the series of Witcher novels the shows and video games are based upon, will also serve as a consultant on Blood Origin.
