Dean DeBlois, the filmmaker behind Lilo & Stitch and the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, is set to make his live-action feature directorial debut on Micronauts, the big screen adaptation of the classic Mego toy line from Paramount Pictures and Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures.
Originally created by Japanese toy manufacturer Takara as the Microman line in 1974, Micronauts was brought to North America in 1976 by Mego Corporation and subsequently spawned a successful Marvel comic book series.
As per THR, Micronauts revolves around ” Microverse in which diverse worlds were linked together and in which a power-mad dictator named Baron Karza kills the royal family, taking control. A small group of eclectic characters — a pilot awoken from a centuries-long deep sleep, alien gladiators, survivors of the coup — band together to form a resistance.”
DeBlois is set to write and direct the project, which previously had a script from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Whether this rewrite will have any impact on the planned June 4th 2021 release date remains to be seen.
