Tired of scaring the bejesus out of audiences up and down various hotel corridors in Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, and The Haunting of Bly Manor, director Mike Flanagan is instead heading to outer-space for his next horror film, with the news that Universal has tapped him up to adapt Christopher Pike’s 1993 novel The Season of Passage.
Described as a science-fiction horror set on Mars, The Season of Passage tells the story of celebrity doctor Laura Wagner, who was involved in the most exciting adventure mankind had ever undertaken: a trip to Mars. The whole world admired and respected her, but she knew fear because of the mystery of the group that had gone before her. The dead group. But were they simply dead, or something else?
According to Deadline, Universal bought the pitch from Intrepid Pictures, Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy’s production company, with the former set to co-write the screenplay alongside James Flanagan.
The relationship between Christopher Pike and Mike Flanagan is clearly working, as the two are currently filming the author’s The Midnight Club for Netflix. Pike will executive produce The Season of Passage.
