Get ready to journey back to Far, Far Away with the news that Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz are returning as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona for Shrek 5.

Walt Dohrn (Trolls) will co-direct with Brad Ableson (Minions: The Rise of Gru), while Gina Shay (The Trolls franchise) will produce alongside Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri (The Super Mario Bros. Movie).
Based on a 1990 picture book by William Steig, 2001’s’ Shrek grossed $488 million at the worldwide box-office and won the inaugural Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Shrek 2 followed in 2004, doubling the success with $932 million globally, before 2007’s Shrek the Third took $813 million, and Shrek Forever After ended the fairy-tale franchise with $750 million. In-between there was spin-off success for Antonio Banderas’ swashbuckling cat, with 2011’s Puss in Boots earning $550 million, and 2022’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish taking home $481 million and an Oscar nomination.
With Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 playing like gangbusters at this summer’s box-office, there’s little surprise that DreamWorks are dusting off the story book for the further adventures of Shrek.
