After dominating gaming for the past decade and a half, Minecraft is looking to expand in a big way with game studio Mojang announcing that they will follow the upcoming live-action movie starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black by teaming with Netflix for an animated series based upon the blockbuster IP.
The announcement was made by Mojang as part of Minecraft’s 15th anniversary celebrations this past week, with Netflix sharing a brief announcement teaser for the series, although further details are being kept under wraps at present…
Launching in 2011 from Mojang Studios, Minecraft has sold over 300 million copies worldwide, making it the bestselling video game of all time, and with over 140 active monthly players, there’s certainly a huge audience for both the movie and the series to tap into.
There’s no word as to when we can expect the Minecraft series on Netflix, but the live-action movie is set for release on April 4th 2025 from Warner Bros. Pictures.
