Having originally been slated for release in May of this year when it was first announced way back in 2015, Warner Bros. and Mojang’s big screen adaptation of the video game phenomenon Minecraft has now been given a new release date of March 4th 2022.
Dates! They are important, because they allow us to clear our calendars for exciting, nay, MONUMENTAL events. Such as the upcoming Minecraft movie, which finally has one! March 4, 2022. Just around the corner! A few more details here: https://t.co/JfIEBYpptc pic.twitter.com/CstpQVKPdY

The film has recently undergone a major shake-up behind the scenes, with director Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) and screenwriters Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) coming on board after original director Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) dropped out of the project last year.
In addition to the new release date, it has also been announced that the Minecraft movie will tell “the story of a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers. After the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, they must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.”
