Having originally been set to arrive in July of last year, Sony Pictures’ Jared Leto-headlined Marvel movie Morbius saw itself bumped into 2021 in the wake of the pandemic, with the studio then announcing earlier this month that the film has been pushed back again and is now looking at a January 21st 2022 release.
Well, it seems this latest delay may not be entirely down to COVID, as Leto has revealed to Sway’s Universe that he’s getting ready to reprise the role of Dr. Michael Morbius for a round of reshoots:
Jared Leto says he still has long hair because of Morbius, he said they still shooting a little bit in a couple weeks.

While additional photography isn’t anything out of the ordinary on these type of big-budget movies, it’s worth noting that this is actually the second round of reshoots on Morbius – and taking place almost exactly a year after the first. Couple that with the following comments from Leto to Variety this week:
“It’s a pressure cooker. You have a clock ticking. They’re expensive films. And so, all of the decisions and the time to make those decision are a little bit more heated and so it can be a little more stressful. I think it’s more common with these big movies, you don’t really start with a gem of a script. You start with a hope and a dream and an idea of something. And you all try to work as hard as you can, in this given amount of time, to make it as good as it can be.”
This all begs the question then: is Morbius running into a little trouble behind-the-scenes? If so, then at least Sony has given itself plenty of time to try and salvage things, even if history shows that rarely proves to be the case in these kind of situations.
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.
Morbius is set for release on January 21st 2022, and sees Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) directing a cast that includes Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) as Dr. Michael Morbius, Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim Uprising) as Martine Bancroft, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Loxias Crown, Jared Harris (The Terror) as Morbius’ mentor, and Tyrese Gibson (Fast & Furious) as an FBI agent.
