Ever since Kevin Feige promised some “unexpected” character debuts in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, rumours have been circulating as to who we might be seeing alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch in next year’s Marvel sequel.
Just last week it was suggested that America Chavez and Brother Voodoo are being lined up for appearances, and now more rumours have surfaced, firstly by way of The Illuminerdi, which claims that casting is underway for the character of Clea. Marvel is said to be looking at females aged between 27 and 42 of any ethnicity with “leading lady qualities” for the role of Steven Strange’s on-off love interest, who also happens to be the niece of Dormammu.
Along with Clea, the site also goes on to “confirm” Chiwetel Ejiofor’s return as Mordo – something that seemed all but assured based upon the film’s official synopsis.
And finally, a report over at MCU Cosmic states that the film will explore some of the alternate realities of the Multiverse, and as such we may see some very different variations of well-known Marvel characters, potentially with different actors in the roles. Again, this is unconfirmed, but certainly within the realm of possibility given the Multiverse angle.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently searching for a new director following the departure of Scott Derrickson due to creative differences. His replacement is expected to be announced soon as Marvel looks to keep the sequel on track for its planned May 7th 2021 release.
