For the past couple of months, Wesley Snipes has been suggesting that he’s in line for a return as Eric Brooks, claiming that he’s had “favorable” discussions with Marvel Studios about headlining another Blade movie. Now, speaking to The Huffington Post, the action star has offered up a few more words on the reported talks, along with the possibility of Blade joining up with The Avengers.
“There’s always a possibility, you know. It’s in Marvel’s hands” says Snipes. “They’re controlling the pace and the flow with that. Conversations have been good. They see the value in it. We see the value in it. I’m still in shape enough and fit enough to handle the role. We’ll see how it goes. I don’t really know what’s going to happen to it yet.”
“That would be interesting,” he continues, when asked about the Daywalker joining up with The Avengers. “I mean, I know it’s in the comic book. It would be interesting to see where they would place him and where he really would fit in. He’s got to bite somebody. I don’t know who he’s going to bite.”
With the rights to Blade back at Marvel, it’s all but assured that the character will return at some point in time, with (unconfirmed) rumours suggesting that we could see a new movie centred on Blade’s daughter, Fallon Grey. If there’s any truth to that, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to bring Snipes back as a mentor figure, but personally I’d bet on a complete reboot of the character…
