Since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, we’ve lost count of the number of times that rumours have surfaced of a fifth Indiana Jones movie, and now Aint It Cool is reporting that “a reliable source” has informed them that plans are indeed afoot and a Q4 2018 release has been pencilled in internally at the studio.
Just last month, Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy admitted that another Indiana Jones movie “will one day be made inside this company” and that “we are talking about it”, however the official line remains that the studio’s sole focus at present is on relaunching the Star Wars franchise.
Previous rumours had suggested that Steven Spielberg is keen to return to the series he launched with George Lucas, and has hand-picked Jurassic World star Chris Pratt to take over the reins from Harrison Ford (although Pratt subsequently denied that he’d spoken to anyone about the role).
At this point, it seems clear we will get a fifth Indiana Jones movie in at some point in the not too distant future, but I can’t remember the last time AICN had the inside track on a project, so I’d suggest taking this report of a 2018 release date with a healthy pinch of salt for the time being.
Are you excited about the prospect of a fifth Indiana Jones movie? Would you like to see Harrison Ford returning to the role, or should they give Chris Pratt a crack of the whip? Let us know in the comments below…
