As much as Morena Baccarin played a crucial role in the first two Deadpool films, her fate for the third entry seems to be in the air.
As Ryan Reynolds gears up to star in Deadpool 3, the cast begins to take shape with new actors and familiar faces. Sadly, we don’t know if Baccarin’s Vanessa has a planned return.
In a new interview on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, Baccarin admits she’d like to return but feels like the studio & herself have not agreed on the terms.
Baccarin says, “Yeah, what is up with Deadpool 3? That’s a really good question. I have to be very diplomatic about what I say here. I’d like to be in it. They have called me about being in it… Right now, we have not agreed on terms, and everybody’s trying their best and doing their best. It may or may not work out. I don’t know.”
Baccarin does hint that the movie has a specific goal: focus more on Deadpool and Wolverine rather than rehash past storylines from previous films. “I do think that this movie, since the acquirement of this Deadpool universe by Marvel/Disney… that merger that happened, I do feel like they’re trying to reinvent it a little bit,” explains the actress. “I think this movie is going to be much more about Wolverine and Deadpool… Hugh’s going to be a huge part of it. I’m sure he’ll be great.”
That’s not to say previous stars won’t return; we recently learned Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams would reprise their roles of Dopinder and Blind Al, respectively. They’ll be joined by franchise newcomers Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin.
Deadpool 3 will star Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Matthew Macfadyen, and Emma Corrin. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin are writing the film, and Shawn Levy (Free Guy) is on board as director.
The as-yet-untitled Deadpool 3 is set for release on September 6th, 2024.
