Deniz Gamze Erguven, director of the Academy Award-nominated Mustang, has signed on to direct Anne Hathaway in an adaptation of Charlotte Rogan’s book The Lifeboat, The Tracking Board is reporting. Erguven replaces Joe Wright (Atonement), who was originally attached to direct.
The Lifeboat “follows Grace Winter (Hathaway), a young woman who recounts the tale of how she survived a shipwreck at sea while on trial for murder in 1914. The film explores the moral crisis that presents itself when she discovers there are too many people on board her lifeboat and if some don’t abandon ship, they’ll all perish.”
Erguven is currently in post-production on her next film Kings, which follows a foster family in South Central L.A. a few weeks before the city erupts in violence following the verdict of the Rodney King trial in 1992, and stars Halle Berry and Daniel Craig.
