Get ready to smile again as Paramount is moving forward with a sequel to last year’s horror hit Smile and have cast Naomi Scott (Aladdin) to lead the untitled sequel. Temple Hill will produce Smile 2 with Paramount.
Smile followed a psychiatrist who began to believe she was being targeted by a supernatural entity after she witnessed a traumatic incident involving one of her patients. The film earned a total of $217 million at the worldwide box office, becoming a huge success off its $17 million budget. It was based on Finn’s short film Laura Hasn’t Slept.
Smile 2 has a release date for October 18th, 2024 with the first film’s Parker Finn returning to the director’s chair and once again writing the screenplay.
Smile starred Sosie Bacon (Mare of Easttown), Jessie T. Usher (The Boys), Kyle Gallner (Scream), Caitlin Stasey (Bridge and Tunnel), Kal Penn (Designated Survivor) and Rob Morgan (Stranger Things).
After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.
