Deadline is reporting that Naomi Watts is set to star in Penguin Bloom, an adaptation of Bradley Trevor Greive’s bestselling Australian book. Watts is also producing the film with Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea, while Shaun Grant (Snowtown, Berlin Syndrome) will pen the screenplay.
Penguin Bloom (published in the U.S.) tells the true story of Cameron and Sam Bloom and their three children; an everyday family, their lives were turned upside down when Sam fell from a balcony while holidaying in Thailand, and was left paralyzed from the chest down. As the family struggled to adjust to their new situation, an unlikely ally entered their lives in the form of an injured Magpie chick which the Bloom clan called Penguin, who became a mascot for the family.
Naomi Watts can currently be seen in cinemas in The Book of Henry, and on the small screen in Netflix’s Gypsy and Showtime’s Twin Peaks.
