Natalie Dormer joins Penny Dreadful spinoff City of Angels

February 23, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that former Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer has been cast in Showtime’s upcoming Penny Dreadful spinoff series City of Angels.

Dormer will portray the character of Magda, “a supernatural, shapeshifting demon who can take the appearance of anyone she chooses and manifests in a number of guises throughout the story. Charismatic, clever, and chameleonic, Magda is a dangerous enemy and an invaluable ally.”

City of Angels has been created by Penny Dreadful’s John Logan, and is described as a “spiritual descendant” which takes place in Los Angeles in 1938 and promises to “explore an exciting mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of the period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a genuine historical backdrop.”

Dormer is the second person to be cast in the spinoff after Daniel Zovatto (Don’t Breathe), who will play the show’s lead Tiago, the first Mexican-American detective on the LAPD, who grapples with racism, childhood trauma and faith issues.
