Former Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer is set for a return to the small screen, with Deadline reporting that the actress is set to take on the role of Gone with the Wind star Vivien Leigh in a new limited series drama from FremantleMedia and Mainstreet Pictures.
According to the site, the series will focus on Leigh’s personal and professional successes and struggles, with each episode centring on a specific project that the actress worked on. The series is being penned by Stewart Harcourt (Churchill’s Secret) and will also drawn upon Kendra Bean’s 2013 biography Vivien Leigh: An Intimate Portrait.
“The story of the legendary movie star will be a compelling exploration of the woman who was transcendently known for some of the most memorable screen performances of all time,” said FremantleMedia EVP and Creative Director of Global Drama Christian Vesper. “We’re looking forward to working with Natalie Dormer and Mainstreet Pictures to develop the series ready for global audiences.”
“We are incredibly excited to be collaborating with the brilliant Natalie Dormer to play an iconic star like Vivien Leigh and to bring this extraordinary unknown story to a wider audience,” added Mainstreet’s Sally Haynes and Laura Mackey.
Dormer will next be seen in a TV miniseries remake of Picnic at Hanging Rock, and also has the feature films In Darkness, Patient Zero and The Professor and the Madman incoming.
