Collider is reporting that Natalie Portman looks set to follow up her feature directorial debut A Tale of Love and Darkness by getting back behind – and in front of – the camera for a biopic on Esther and Pauline Friedman, the identical twin sisters behind the Dear Abby and Ann Landers advice columns.
The film has been scripted by Katie Robbins (The Affair) and will see Portman portraying both sisters, who were very close growing up, and even participated in a double marriage ceremony on their 21st birthdays. However, when Esther accepted a position at the Chicago Sun-Times as the Ann Landers advice columist, Pauline started her own rival column leading to a bitter rivalry and rift that lasted through to Esther’s death in 2002.
Portman is currently shooting Noah Hawley’s sci-fi drama Pale Blue Dot [check out a first look image here], and also has Brady Corbet’s Vox Lux and Xavier Dolan’s The Death and Life of John F. Donovan in the can.
