After sitting out the MCU since 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, many fans were excited to see Jane Foster make her return to the Thor movies this week. Actress Natalie Portman made quite the impression and her outing in Thor: Love and Thunder is one of the film’s highlights.
The return even excited Portman herself, especially with how Marvel movies are shot these days, the Oscar-winner telling EW that: “There’s one scene that’s one of the most visually beautiful scenes I’ve seen on film, and we shot [it] in real life in a Best Buy parking lot. It’s so wild to be on this size of movie, and we were literally in a parking lot with a blue screen, doing this really dramatic thing. It looks so stunning on film, but every time I see it, I’m like, ‘That’s a Best Buy parking lot.'”
The actress went on to add that they shot plenty for Thor: Love and Thunder that didn’t make it to the final cut. She even says there are entire characters and worlds we missed out on.
“There were whole sequences, planets, characters, and worlds that didn’t end up in the movie that were hilarious and amazing and we spent a lot of time and energy on, and certainly the entire crew also designing and conceiving,” said Portman in an interview with IndieWire. “It’s just amazing how much great material is not in the film, considering how much great material is in it. Usually, it’s like, you’re just trying to get enough good stuff to put in the film, and this had overflow. So that was really surprising.”

Portman’s comments follow on from reports that there’s a four-hour cut of Thor: Love and Thunder out there. Could we eventually get a Waititi Cut of the film? It seems unlikely, but hopefully we’ll get to see some of the deleted material on the home-entertainment release.
Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Love and Thunder” finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey, unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Thor: Ragnarok‘s Taika Waititi, who also reprises his CGI role as Korg, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), alongside the returning Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Dave Bautista (Drax) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin), with Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari) as Gorr the God Butcher and Russell Crowe (Man of Steel) as Zeus.
Thor: Love and Thunder is in cinemas now.
