Castle’s Nathan Fillion is once again collaborating with director James Gunn as he joins the cast of The Suicide Squad at Warner Bros.
This isn’t the first time Fillion and Gunn have worked together. He has supplied the voice of a ‘monstrous inmate’ in Guardians of The Galaxy, he played Bill in the director’s 2006 horror comedy Slither, and he took on the role of The Holy Avenger in Super.
According to Deadline, Fillion’s role is currently being kept under wraps but with the report stating that he is “starring” in The Suicide Squad, this could potentially mean the actor has a larger role, as opposed to a cameo.
Fillion is best known for his role as Captain Malcolm ‘Mal’ Reynolds in the cult sci-fi series Firefly and the feature film Serenity. His other credits include Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet and A Series of Unfortunate Events, and ABC’s Castle and The Rookie.
The actor will join the returning cast members Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), while new additions include David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man) as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior (Valor da Vida) as Ratcatcher, Steve Agee (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) as King Shark and Idris Elba (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw), John Cena (Bumblebee) and Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time) in unrevealed roles.
