With Castle coming to an end last year, Deadline is reporting that Nathan Fillion is set to reunite with ABC for the light crime drama The Rookie, which has received a straight to series order from the network. Fillion will also executive produce with Castle co-showrunner Alexi Hawley, who is writing the series.
The Rookie is inspired by a true story and sees Fillion as John Nolan, the LAPD’s oldest rookie. “At an age where most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small town life and moved to L.A. to pursue his dream of being a cop. Now, surrounded by rookies twenty years his junior, Nolan must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a ‘young’ cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.”
The series is being produced by ABC Studios and The Mark Gordon Company, the latter of whom also has Designated Survivor, Grey’s Anatomy and Quantico on ABC, as well as a put pilot commitment for Broken Record.
