Variety is reporting that Netflix has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to South Korean filmmaker Kim Jee-woon’s (I Saw the Devil) new film Illang: The Wolf Brigade.
A live-action adaptation of the 1999 anime Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, the film is set in 2029 and ” follows the actions of a special forces squad set up to quell a terrorist sect which opposes the formation of a joint government between North and South Korea.”
Netflix has been actively expanding its roster of Korean programming, premiering its first Korean series Love Alarm earlier this year, as previously granted a two-season order to the medieval zombie series Kingdom. It also earned rave reviews for South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho’s most recent feature Okja.
Kim’s other credits include The Good, The Bad, The Weird and The Age of Shadows, the latter of which was selected as Korean’s foreign language Oscar contender.
